Plíšková will receive 27 million for second place at Wimbledon

Wimbledon tennis players win out of love for the game of tennis, not out of love for money. Nevertheless, the winners of the men’s and women’s singles tournament each year will take home 1.7 million pounds (51 million crowns).

Wimbledon champion of 2021 Ashley Bartyová, who defeated the Czech tennis player Karolina Plíšková, will thus gain 1,700,000 pounds (51.2 million crowns). It is 27.66 percent less than the winner in 2019, Simona Halepová.

Karolina Plíšková will be the second to win 900,000 pounds (27.1 million crowns). Compared to 2019, this amount is also lower by 23.40 percent.

The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is why there was a relatively large decline in total prize money this year. This year, players will compete for a share of prize money of £ 35 million, which is 7.85 percent less than in 2019, when the total prize money was £ 38 million.

However, this amount does not take into account the accommodation of players, which will be paid by the organizer in 2021, so the total expenses will be realistically higher than two years ago.

On the other hand, tennis players who dropped out at the beginning of the tournament will take home more. For example, a loser in the first round will receive £ 48,000 (1.4 million crowns) this year, which is a small increase of 6.67 compared to two years ago. The losers in the qualification will also see an increase, where the losers from the first quarter will receive a 21.43 percent higher reward, ie 8,500 pounds (256 thousand crowns).

When determining the amount of prize money for this year, the organizing AELTC considered a number of factors, including limiting the capacity of spectators, investments to provide quality accommodation with complete service so as to minimize the risk of infection.
