One point leaves Doménica Azuero out of the semifinals in BMX

In her first Olympic Games, the Cuenca cyclist finished fifth in her series and could not qualify for the BMX semifinals.

Domain Azuero failed to qualify for the BMX cycling semifinals racing Wednesday July 28. The Cuenca was fifth in his series of six cyclists, with a sum of 13 points.

In the first race, the Ecuadorian representative ranked third and got three points. In the second outing, he placed fifth, scoring five points. Finally, she finished fifth in the third race, earning five points.

In this competition, each cyclist had to do three races and received a point for the position in which he finishes in each. That is, the first adds one point, the second two, and so on.

The semifinals will be played on Thursday, July 29. They will have the same format as the quarterfinals, with three races that will take place at 20:15, 20:46 and 21:17 (Ecuador time).

Doménica Azuero is the first Ecuadorian woman in history to qualify for the Olympic Games in BMX. In 2018, he was a silver medalist at the Pan American BMX Championship in Colombia. He also placed sixth in a tournament in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in 2019.

BMX cycling at the Olympics

BMX has been part of the Olympic Games since Beijing 2008. A maximum of eight riders compete in each race in a 400 meter long route.

The start is from a ramp eight meters high and with a slope of 35%. Competitors must use, as a safety measure, a helmet that completely covers the face, glasses and a suit with long sleeves.

It begins with the quarterfinals, with series of six cyclists and where the best four of each pass. In the semifinals there are two series of eight competitors and the best four of each they qualify for the final.
