Olympics 2020: German football team leaves the field in a friendly match after racist insults

LThe German Olympic football team left the field in a friendly against Honduras on Saturday after racist slurs against Jordan Torunarigha.

The German players left the pitch five minutes from the end of the game when the score was 1-1. Jordan Torunarigha, the German defender, was the victim of racist slurs from a Honduran player, the German Football Association wrote on Twitter.

“If one of our players is the victim of racist insults, continuing to play is not an option for us,” said Stefan Kuntz, the German coach.

Jordan Torunarigha, teammate of Dedryck Boyata and Dodi Lukebakio at Hertha Berlin, had already been the target of monkey cries in February 2020 during a cup match against Schalke 04. The German club was then fined 50,000 euros .
