NBA: Bad news for Kawhi Leonard

The Los Angeles Clippers have announced on their official website that Kawhi Leonard has undergone surgery to cure one injury to the cruciate ligament of the right knee. The Clippers have not disclosed recovery times.

Leonard injured his knee in the final of Game 4 of the conference semifinal series against Utah Jazz, later won by the Clippers 4-2, and had missed the entire series against the Phoenix Suns, the Clippers had classified the injury as a knee sprain, without specifying any recovery times.

Times that risk becoming really long, even risking to stand still for a whole year. Kawhi Leonard will also have to decide whether or not to exercise the player option on his final year of contract, from 36 million dollars, or become a free agent.

The injury and the long stop that is looming may not leave many options to Kawhi, who could decide to exercise his option to become a free agent in the summer of 2022 or to renegotiate a new contract with the Clippers today.

This season Leonard averaged 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game with 51.2% shooting and 39% three-point shooting, in 52 games played and 34.1 minutes on average.
