Moved to Win Wimbledon 2021, Novak Djokovic: This is my dream since childhood : Okezone Sports

LONDON – Novak Djokovic won his sixth Wimbledon title after beating Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini in the final which took place on Sunday 11 July 2021 evening WIB. Even though it was his sixth title, Djokovic was still touched after confirming to become the 2021 Wimbledon champion.

That’s because according to Djokovic, Wimbledon is a grand slam event that he has always dreamed of since childhood. When he was still in Serbia, he had dreamed of being able to one day experience lifting the Wimbledon trophy with his own hands.

So eager for Djokovic to win the Wimbledon event, as a child he admitted that he had made a replica of the grand slam trophy with various items in his room. Now, that dream has come true.

In fact, so far Djokovic has collected six Wimbledon titles and that’s what makes me really touched and feel grateful. According to him the final match against Berrettini is not just an ordinary game, but more like a battle.

Because Djokovic has always viewed Wimbledon as something very special. So, every time he manages to win a Wimbledon grand slam, Djokovic admits he feels touched because it is such a special event.

“It was more than just a battle (after beating Berrettini). Winning Wimbledon has always been my biggest dream as a kid. I know how special this is and I don’t want to take this title for granted,” said Djokovic, quoted from the ATP Tour, Monday (12/7/2021).

“At the time, I was a seven-year-old boy in Serbia, building the Wimbledon tennis trophy with improvised materials from my bedroom and now I stand here with six titles. It’s absolutely incredible,” he continued.

Djokovic himself was not only happy because he had just won his sixth Wimbledon title, but he also succeeded in equaling the record held by two world men’s singles tennis legends, namely Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The record that Djokovic has equaled in terms of his number of grand slam trophies is now 20, which means that he equals the achievements of Nadal and Federer. Of course with that, Federer now deserves to be called the best tennis player in the world because previously only Nadal and Federer had managed to collect 20 grand slam titles.

Of course, Djokovic won’t be able to win his 20th grand slam title if he doesn’t perform optimally against Berrettini in the 2021 Wimbledon final. The Italian tennis player was able to trouble Djokovic in the first set. Fortunately Djokovic was able to rise and close the match with a score of 6(4)-(7)7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
