Mohegan and FanDuel Sign Betting and Online Casino Agreement in Connecticut

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), the casino and hospitality division of the Mohegan tribe, has selected FanDuel as a sports betting partner in Connecticut as the state is entering the final stages regarding introducing the practice to local sports enthusiasts .

Under the terms of this new partnership, FanDuel will provide online and mobile sports betting and daily casino and fantasy sports services in the state and operate a physical bookmaker at MGE’s flagship casino, Mohegan Sun, in Unscasville, Connecticut.

Provided licensing and regulatory approvals are granted, FanDuel plans to launch its digital and retail products in the state in partnership with MGE this fall. Local sports fans can bet on professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey, as well as on a number of other sports.

Additionally, FanDuel will provide an online casino experience under the Mohegan Sun brand. The company’s partnership with MGE allows it to also supply its DFS product statewide.

In March, Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut’s two federally recognized tribes – the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot – signed a ten-year gambling agreement according to which the two tribes were authorized to conduct sports betting and online casino activities on the territory of the state.

The state legislature passed a bill on the deal in late May, and Governor Lamont quickly turned it into law. The deal is now under consideration by the United States Department of the Interior. Subject to federal approval, sports betting and iGaming may be launched in the state already this fall.

FanDuel Will Open A Temporary Facility First

FanDuel and MGE have claimed that Mohegan Sun it will initially feature a temporary FanDuel Sportsbook during the construction phase of a permanent structure. The temporary venue will have four betting outlets and 16 self-service betting terminals.

The permanent betting facility is expected to open its doors this winter, regulatory approvals permitting.

Commenting on their partnership with MGE, FanDuel President Amy Howe said Mohegan Sun is “An iconic casino and entertainment destination in the Northeast and we are thrilled to announce ours first tribal gambling partnership with one of the leading tribal operators in the United States. “

The official teased “Some amazing plans” for their future retail facility at the Mohegan Sun, saying it could be the largest FanDuel Sportsbook in the United States. Ms Howe then pointed out that when they combine retail sports betting with the possibility of online betting and iGaming, “Connecticut it will be a fundamental state for us as we await the start of the football season ”.

Late last month MGE announced the launch of its interactive division, Mohegan Digital. The company said at the time that its goal was for its newly formed online gaming branch “Led the charge” In providing digital solutions “Avant-garde” to its loyal fan base.

MGE earlier this year saw the debut of its first gambling facility in Las Vegas – Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The casino operator announced its partnership with British tycoon Richard Branson’s hospitality business in September 2019. The property has a bookmaker run by Betfred.
