Anthony Rizzo hit a home run in his first game with the New York Yankees, who beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Friday night.

Acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, Rizzo opened the scoring with a solo slap in the sixth. This is his 15th homerun of the season.

Rizzo also hit a single. He finished the game with two hits in three appearances with one walk.

Joey Gallo, who was also making his debut for the Yankees following his acquisition from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, was shut out in four appearances and walked away.

Jameson Taillon (7-4) shut out the Marlins for five and two-thirds innings.

Abraham Toro continues his momentum with the Mariners

Abraham Toro hit three hits in a Seattle Mariners 9-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.

The Mariners have won five of their last seven games. They began their 10-game road trip two and a half games with the Oakland Athletics, who sit second in the American’s fourth ace game.

Logan Gilbert (5-2), the Mariners’ 2018 first-round pick, allowed four runs and six hits in five and two-thirds innings. He passed the mitt to six batters and allowed a walk, before being kicked out of the game by solo homers from Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim in the sixth.

New Mariners reliever Diego Castillo, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, threw a perfect ninth inning on his debut.

Garcia hit his 23rd homerun for the Rangers, who traded star players Joey Gallo and Kyle Gibson and reliever Ian Kennedy before the trade deadline. The Rangers are on their way to a 100-game losing streak. They sit last on the American and have lost 14 of their last 15 games.

Jarred Kelenic hit a ball from Kolby Allard (2-9) in the stands after a double from Luis Torrens and a single from Toro. It was his first home run since his recall from Team AAA Tacoma on July 16. The up-and-coming Mariners prospect had only maintained a .096 batting average in his first 23 games in the Majors. He was the centerpiece of the deal that sent Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the New York Mets in December 2018.

Kelenic had a fourth RBI of the game, a personal best, on an optional in the ninth inning.

Allard, who joined the Rangers at the 2019 trade deadline, allowed seven runs, including six earned, in three innings. He’s lost in his last seven starts and is 1-9 since May 27.

The Mariners took a 4-0 lead in the second inning with two hits, two walks and a miss from shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa to home plate.

Jason Martin, recalled Wednesday to take Gallo’s place in the lineup, hit a homerun in the seventh.
