Miryam Roper dreams of Panama and winning a medal in Tokyo

Judoka Miryam Roper is ready and prepared to start her competition at -57 kilograms on (July 25 at 9:00 pm Panamanian time) at the Toki Olympic Gamesoy his objective is clear, “to win a medal for Panama”.

“We have worked quite well in the last months and weeks, I will give everything, I feel in good condition to win a medal, I am happy, I have no worries and I will give my best,” said Roper who was concentrated in a camp in Panam Sports in Tachikawa, near Tokyo.

“What I’m going to do is give my best,” he reiterated, the judoka when referring to the competition.

Roper added that the camp was good, that he had 4 sparrings that helped him with his individual preparation and that he shared with athletes from Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Venezuela.

“I am representing my father’s country, it is like a dream for me, the family in Panama is very important like that of Germany and I am proud of that, judo in Panama is growing,” said Roper in a video released by the Olympic Committee of Panama (COP).

The judoka also thanked the support she has had in Panama and that she expects the participation of national athletes in the Tokyo Games.

Panama in the Olympic Games is represented by 10 athletes.

Panamanians qualified for Tokyo 2020 are: Christofer Jurado (cycling), Jorge Castelblanco (marathon), Gianna Wooudruff (400 meters hurdles) and Nathalee Aranda in long jump.

They are also classified: Alonso Edward (200 meters), Atheyna Bylon (boxing), Kristine Jiménez and Miryam Roper (judo), Emily Santos in the 100 meters breaststroke and Tyler Chistianson in the 100 meters combined.
