Mexico’s Olympic team beats Panama in friendly

With goals from midfielder Diego Lainez, defender César Montes and forward Henry Martín, Mexico’s Olympic team – with three reinforcements of legal age and led by Argentine coach Gerardo Martino – beat Panama 3-0 in a friendly match on Wednesday .

Lainez, who plays for Betis in Spain, put the Mexicans in front in the 21st minute and Montes led the game at 57.

Lainez and Montes are two of the eight starting players who are part of the list called by Jaime Lozano to face the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, reinforced with goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, midfielder Luis Romo and forward Martín, who sealed the victory with so much at 90.

Although Lozano has not officially announced the reinforcements, these three players are shaping up to go to the summer tournament as those over 24 years old allowed by the International Olympic Committee.

Martino was the coach with the objective of fulfilling an agreement with the American promoter company Soccer United Marketing (SUM), which requires the absolute team for friendly matches in the United States.

The “Tata” along with Lozano were working with both cadres last week at the High Performance Center located in the Mexican capital.

Martino is expected to use the senior team’s starting draw next Saturday against Nigeria in Los Angeles, the final preparation match before heading into the Gold Cup in which El Tri debuts on July 10.

Mexico took the lead on the scoreboard in a quick transition play in which Lainez entered the area on the right wing, made a cut and took a low shot that went through the right post.

The Mexicans extended their advantage in a corner kick in which Montes advanced to his marker and finished off with a header that entered through the right post of the canalero goal.

When the game expired, Martín received a ball inside the area and took a shot that went through the left post.
