Soccer player Lena Goeßling does not want to continue her career despite offers from other clubs

She is one of the most successful German soccer players. Lena Goeßling became Olympic champion in Rio in 2016 and European champion in 2013. But now the 35-year-old is ending her career.

Lena Goeßling has ended her successful football career. “For weeks, the most frequently asked question has been: ‘Where are you going to play next year?’ And the answer I can give now is: not at all, “said the 35-year-old on Instagram on Tuesday.

The midfielder had not received a new contract with VfL Wolfsburg after the season. “At first I was shocked and sad because I was so closely connected to VfL for ten years,” she told the “Bild”.

Despite offers from other clubs, she no longer wants to continue her career. “I consciously took the time to make this decision for myself. I’m breaking up,” wrote Goessling on Instagram.

But I am sure that I will not be able to recreate this feeling that I have developed for VfL Wolfsburg in ten years for any other club.” Without this feeling and without this passion, she doesn’t want to start again anywhere else. Goeßling is one of the most successful German players. She became Olympic champion in Rio in 2016 and European champion in 2013. With VfL Wolfsburg she won the Champions League twice, six German championship titles and the DFB Cup eight times.
