judoka Dominic Ressel missed the semi-finals on Tuesday (07/27/2021) – but the dream of the Olympic medal in Tokyo can still come true. Martyna Trajdos, on the other hand, failed early on.

Dominic Ressel lost his quarterfinals in the light middleweight class up to 81 kilograms. Against the favored Japanese Takanori Nagase, the 27-year-old vice European champion from 2017 lost in the golden score extension through Ko-soto-gake throw. Ressel was the more active judoka in the duel against the Olympic third party from 2016, but could not land a score.

Medal chance over consolation round

In the hope round, Ressel must now play against the Russian Alan Khubetsow. If the Cologne from TSV Kronshagen wins his fight there, he can fight for the bronze medal.

Ressel: Victories against Rmilah and de Wit

In his first two fights on Tuesday, Ressel had prevailed against Wesam Abu Rmilah from Palestine and the Dutch world number fifth Frank de Wit.

Trajdos fails in overtime

On the other hand, the light middleweight medal hope Martyna Trajdos had a lot of bad luck: In her first fight in the round of the best 32, the World Cup third in 2019 and two-time European Championship third were eliminated. In extra time she was defeated by Hungarian Szofi Ozbas with a golden score from Waza-Ari. After an outside throw (Soto-makikomi) it was already over for the Cologne woman in the class up to 63 kilograms.
