“I’m tired of talking about it” -Cam Newton

Identified as the New England Patriots starter by head coach Bill Belichick before training camp began, quarterback Cam Newton didn’t seem too bothered with the competition.

The 32-year-old veteran must show, however, that he deserves the No. 1 position more than young Mac Jones and more experienced Brian Hoyer.

“Since I’ve been here, there is competition at quarterback, Newton said Friday, during press conferences following the exercise of his team. This is the Patriots’ way. It’s no different this year. Hoyer is supposed to make me a better player, I’m supposed to make Mac a better player … “

The 2015 NFL MVP has a lot to forgive about the last campaign. While in office, the “Pats” maintained a 7-8 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Newton does not want to hear more about this season, however, where he threw just eight touchdown passes.

“I’m putting the 2020 season behind me. I’m tired of talking about it. I’m focused on my goal of being the best quarterback I can be for the New England Patriots. ”

Mac Jones in learning mode

Newton’s biggest threat certainly comes from young Mac Jones. The latter was the Patriots’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the last auction on the Goodell Circuit.

On Friday, he was asked about his habit of talking at length with his teammates when the attack misses a game in practice.

“It’s all about building relationships,” said the 22-year-old hub. Often if the game fails, it’s because I did something wrong and want to improve. I want to be in harmony with my teammates, but it takes time and repetitions. ”

When it comes to competing for the starter position, the Alabama Crimson Tide product just wants to look at his performance.

“You have to focus on what you do as a quarterback. I don’t have to worry about others and I have to be myself, ”Jones said.
