Two Liverpool defenders, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, are still trying to prepare for a comeback. How are the two conditions ahead of the 2021/2022 season?

Van Dijk suffered a severe knee injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton in the Premier League in October 2020. The injury made Van Dijk have to finish the season faster.

A few weeks later, Gomez also fell and had to enter the treatment room. Just like Van Dijk, Gomez could not feature for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

Van Dijk and Gomez are currently undergoing pre-season with Liverpool in Austria. Liverpool manager, Juergen Klopp, said the two players were in good condition even though they had not been able to fully train with the team.

“Virg and Joe won’t have double sessions for the first few days with the team. They have a second session but with the rehab department, physiotherapy, things like that,” Klopp said as reported by Reuters Sky Sports.

“That’s for them. They look really good. I don’t know exactly when we can make the next step but it will happen in the next four weeks. Of course we will make a big step.”

Jurgen Klopp also conveyed the news about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s condition. The 22-year-old right-back suffered a thigh injury in England’s friendly against Austria in June. The injury prevented Alexander-Arnold from appearing at Euro 2020.

“Trent’s injury is quite serious but I would say at the moment it’s not a big injury,” Klopp said of Alexander-Arnold.

“He’s close but for now, maybe the next five or six days, he’s on a special program – from time to time with the team, from time to time with himself. But then in five, six or seven days he should join. normal practice,” he said.
