With great intensity and dynamics, Deportivo Independiente Medellín adjusted eight weeks of preseason, prior to what is coming in the League and the Colombia Cup in the second half of 2021. Coach Hernán Darío Gómez spoke about how the team’s preparation progresses, the players who arrived and what is missing to define the template.
“Living like everyone else, this pandemic unites the family and moving forward. The last tournament was very hard for us, there was not much time to have a good preseason, but with what we are doing, we are achieving that security in the physical part so that the boys can develop that talent and perform better, ”Gómez highlighted in dialogue with the program ‘Gente, Pasión y Fútbol’.
Regarding the team’s departures in the last hours, the coach indicated that “Yimmy (Gómez) left for Patriotas on loan and Jaime Giraldo also left for Deportivo Pasto. We are going to raise one or two players from the lower ranks ”. In addition, “Matías (Mier) has options to be in another team, like Walter (Rodríguez), Juan Camilo (Saíz) and Leonardo (Castro), in football we are never full, there are very good players who arrived.”
The powerful coach announced that they would be following in the footsteps of a left-back, “it’s paisa, let’s see if he can come. We have Yulián (Gómez), Germán (Gutiérrez), around there I spoke with the managers to find another left back ”.
‘Bolillo’ spoke about how his lines are formed, starting with the goalkeepers and wingers, “Andrés (Mosquera Marmolejo) and Luis Erney (Vásquez) since I arrived they have seemed spectacular to me. In the band, we have rehearsed Estupiñán and Jean Pineda, he has surprised me by the ability to manage the whole band, he is a man of great continuity at work, he has good passing game, I liked him a lot ”.
As for the center-backs, the strategist pointed out that “we looked a lot at the offensive part where we had more difficulties, than at the defensive part where we were more solid. About Didier (Well), it was the same story as Víctor Moreno, they were in Medellín, they left and came back more mature, he is fast, strong, he has clarity, he delivers the ball well. (Juan José) Aguilar is a very technical man, I have even put him at the wheel and he has very good handling with both profiles, he lacks a little more reaction, but he is learning ”.
On the possibility that the team could release a foreign quota, Gómez spoke in the flyers area, the importance of Argentine Adrián Arregui, who is very close to returning to recover from his physical discomfort and fight for a position. “We have been waiting for Adrián (Arregui), since January, if he arrives he has to commit himself, that position has a lot of yellow card, a lot of friction and it is good to have several players in that position, even Miguel Camargo, the Panamanian, plays very good there. Many teams use a brand steering wheel together with a mixed one, it is a very good combination that I have tried since I was directing at Nacional ”.
Regarding the issue of extremes, Hernán Darío ruled out the arrival of Juan Sebastián Peñaloza and Esneyder Mena, in their places Edwar López and Vladimir Hernández arrived. “(Juan Sebastián) Peñaloza and (Esneyder) Mena, we fought a lot for them, but it didn’t happen. Nowadays, training is very easy, directing is very easy, but hiring is very complicated. I am happy with the extremes, I have more replacement and more difficulty to get a starting eleven, there are players like Juan Pablo Gallego who is very versatile, we have Vladimir (Hernández) who gives us many options, with Edwar (López) we put it for band, but he can also play very well behind the striker. With Robert (Harrys) we had to wait for him because the ankle injury he suffered has cost him a lot to get back on track, but he has conditions. Juan Diego (Ospina) can also play in various attacking positions ”.
The coach dedicated a few words of praise to ‘Vlacho’ and hopes to exploit that potential that made him figure in Junior, Santos and sometimes in Nacional. “It is important to play, in Nacional, Vladimir (Hernández) played at times and it is very difficult, you have to let him play. What I have seen in training is that you have to let it flow, to express your game ”.
At the end of the dialogue, ‘Bolillo’ projected a team with a good preseason that will be able to face not only the two tournaments of the second semester, but also that there is a competitive base for the South American Cup. “We are choosing the players among all, but they are not the most expensive in the country. The Medellín fans must understand that I arrived in February and in a few months you cannot make a great team. I know they are anxious because seven tournaments ago they did not qualify among the eight. If we had not had illnesses and injuries, in that League we would have gone further. There are teams that have more than one year of work. Nor am I getting my body out, we are fighting to go far and we are putting together a team thinking about the South American Cup, which we will have next year. For now, I don’t have a defined base ”.
