Greysia/Apriyani Defeat Their Representative, Malaysia: All England Revenge!

INDOSPORT.COM – The success of the Indonesian women’s doubles, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, defeating Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean at the Tokyo Olympics was claimed by the media in Malaysia because of All England’s revenge.

Competing at Musashino Forest Sports Plaza, Mei Kuan / Meng Yean, had to accept the harsh reality after losing in the opening match of Group A badminton at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Mei Kuan/Meng Yean of Greysia/Apriyani played in a straight game 14-21, 17-21 in 47 minutes.

The game itself runs out of balance. Mei Kuan/Meng Yean looked nervous throughout the match, while Greysia/Apriyani looked fierce and determined to win the match.

According to media in Malaysia, The Star, Greysia/Apriyani were able to conquer the women’s doubles of the neighboring country because they were driven by revenge in several previous tournaments.

Prior to the Tokyo Olympics, Greysia/Apriyani had already met Mei Kuan/Men Yean in the group stage of the World Tour Finals in January 2021.

This media said that Greysia/Apriyani, who won the Yonex Thailand Open two weeks earlier, were surprisingly defeated by Malaysia, which resulted in failure to advance to the knockout phase.

Apart from this loss in the Asian Leg, The Star also claims that Greysia/Apriyani are more motivated to win points at the Olympics after they were banned from competing at the All England in March this year.

As is known, pair no. 6 other world and Indonesian teams have arrived in Birmingham and are ready to compete.

However, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said they could not compete because they were on the same flight with a passenger who tested positive for COVID-19.

The persistence of Greysia/Apriyani at the 2020 Olympics to avenge their failure in the two events was also felt by Meng Yean, who was interviewed after the match.

“The Indonesian pair (Greysia/Apriyani) played well but we also made it easy for them. We couldn’t calm down in the opening match and were nervous,” said Meng Yean.
