Golf: a defending champion relieved at the Duke of Kent

No amateur golfer has managed to win the prestigious tournament in a row for more than a decade.

Christophe Sylvain humbly admits, he felt the pressure when he took the start in the morning with the title of champion of the tournament which rewards the best amateur golfer in the province. After a difficult start to the round, the Lorette Golf Club golfer found his bearings at the right time to finish with a 73 round four strokes from leaders Claude Pelletier (Donnacona) and William Duquette (Laval-Sur-le-Lac) .

“I don’t know anyone who wants to look bad in life. You don’t want to play a round of 80 at this tournament. I haven’t been playing good golf for a while. Without saying that I was stressed, I felt the pressure when I started. I did a double bogey on the third hole, but struggled and ended up with birdies on the 16e hole and at 18e hole to give me a chance tomorrow. “

The 31-year-old felt the pressure drop as soon as his ball disappeared in the 18 cup.e hole. “I really have 100 pounds less on my shoulders. I’m going to go for it without restraint and I’m going to be more aggressive for the rest of things. “

Beautiful course

The Royal Quebec Golf Club could not ask for a better day to showcase its land. The course offered a challenge which was very far from a small cushy walk in the park.

“There was just enough wind to create some concern and the greens were firm and difficult to handle. You really have to think about the placement of your approaches on this ground. It’s gonna be even harder tomorrow [mardi] Sylvain concludes, mentioning that he is proud to have shown character during his working day.

Nothing is played

The tournament should keep a good suspense until the end with good congestion at the top of the standings. Of the 141 golfers who started, there are still 31 golfers who are four strokes or less away from the leaders, including six players who are only one stroke away from being in the lead.

After an edition modified by the pandemic in 2020, many relatives were coming to encourage their favorite for the tournament which has returned to its normal time slot this year.

Of the number, we could count the two former coaches of the Rouge et Or basketball program, since Jacques Paiement came to watch the performance of his son Jacques Paiement Jr, who represents the Royal Quebec golf club.
