FC Barcelona has finally given up its home-grown Carles Alena. However, the Catalans secured a buyback option.

FC Barcelona continues to create space in its squad. Homemade Carles Alena has switched to league rivals Getafe FC after six months on loan. Both clubs announced this on Saturday. Getafe receives a five-year contract with the Madrid suburb club until summer 2026.

Alena (23) had already played on loan for Getafe in the second half of last season and became a regular there. He was involved in four goals in 22 games. The transfer fee should amount to around five million euros.

Barcelona secures buyback option for Alena

However, Barca secured a buyback option for the midfielder, and the club will receive 50 percent of the transfer fee in the event of a resale. In addition, the deal with Getafe includes a so-called “matching right”, which allows the club to outperform any offer from another club with its own offer.

Alena comes from the youth forge La Masia, but did not get beyond the role of the supplementary player in Barcelona. He had already played on loan at Betis Sevilla in the second half of the 2019/20 season.

With Alena leaving, Barca have come a step closer to their goal of cutting salary costs in order to be able to renew their contract with superstar Lionel Messi. However, the club needs more, also more well-known departures.
