Philipp Lahm only dealt with one transfer request during his time in Bavaria. He explains why he didn’t go to Barca in the end.
Philipp Lahm, former captain of FC Bayern Munich and the German national team, has revealed that during his time with the record champions he only seriously dealt with a request from another club. “It would have been FC Barcelona, number one in Europe at the time,” he said Sports picture.
The Catalans showed great interest in the right-back, but Lahm ultimately decided against the offer. “With Barcelona I might have won the Champions League more often, but it was important to me to do it with my club,” he said of his cancellation.
Lahm: “I would have accused me of it all my life”
His great wish finally came true in 2013: with FC Bayern he beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the final at Wembley and took the title in the premier class. “I would have blamed myself for it all my life if I had left and Bayern had won the Champions League at some point during this time without me,” said Lahm.
He didn’t have to reproach himself – much to his delight. “For me there is nothing better than celebrating the success in my environment,” said Lahm.
