EM 2021: Czech Republic 1-2 Denmark – Danes win thanks to wrong corner! – Soccer

Denmark continues to surf its wave of EM euphoria!

The Danes also eliminate the Czech Republic, after a deserved 2-1 win they are in the semi-finals. For the first time since 1992, the Danish team made it into the last four teams. Overall, it is the fourth semi-final in Denmark’s European Championship history.

But in contrast to the brilliant 4-0 demonstration against Wales in the round of 16, the team is lucky this time!

5th minute: Larsen brings a corner from the left. In the middle Delaney is incredibly free, heads the ball completely unrestricted into the left corner. The 1-0 for Denmark.

But: The hit shouldn’t have counted! Instead of the corner kick, there should have been a kick. Celustka’s liberation blow rebounds from Dolberg towards Celustka – but contrary to the linesman’s perception, it does not touch the ball. Wrong decision!

Problem: As in the Bundesliga, the video referee is not allowed to intervene in such situations. The corner ball decision is considered a completed game situation and can therefore not be counted as the creation of the goal.

The Czechs are unlucky! It is not the only time that referee Björn Kuipers (Holland) has made unfortunate decisions at the expense of the Czech Republic.

But it is also clear: Denmark is clearly superior in the first half. The Danes demonstrate this in a world-class play.

42nd Minute: Vestergaard sends Maehle on the left. The Bergamo winger plays an outstanding flank against the second post, where Dolberg makes the 2-0 with a technically strong volley.

The decision? Not yet!

At the beginning of the second half, the Czech Republic suddenly turned up and had four very good chances in the first four minutes. The last one then sits!

49th Minute: Coufal hits a flat half-field cross from the right into the penalty area. Schick holds on to it, the ball rushes into the far corner. Only 2: 1!

Very strong: Schick has scored five out of six tournament goals for the Czechs! The Leverkusen player is currently leading the list of goalscorers together with Portugal’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (36).

But there is no longer enough for more than that with the Netherlands conquerors Czech Republic. Denmark brings the narrow lead in the end confidently over time. Semifinals! There the surprise team of the EM will meet either England or the Ukraine (Saturday, 9 p.m.).

The strong Danes run in numbers: After two unsuccessful group games, the team landed three wins in a row, scored ten goals and only conceded two.

So the Danes can even be expected to reach the finals!
