Drew Robinson retires

Drew Robinson had made an admirable comeback at the start of the season. After losing his eye in a suicide attempt, he had managed to hit a home run in the minor league.

He has just announced his retirement, he will no longer be a baseball player, however, he will not leave this world and will have an equally important role. Indeed, with the San Francisco Giants, he found a position to make the transition from the field to what is outside. He’s going to be a mental health advocate for the franchise.

Robinson will play his last game this weekend before launching this new role. In a social media post, he spoke about what baseball has been in his life.

“I couldn’t be more excited to stay in the sport that saved my life. I remember after my suicide attempt, my first thought to continue living was to play baseball again. That’s what I did with one eye, I’m grateful for the time spent with the River Cats and my 11 years in the league with the Rangers and Cardinals ”

The mental health of athletes is a major topic that has gained in importance in recent years. There is no doubt that Drew Robinson’s new role will be very important for the San Francisco Giants and for the sport in general.
