How cruel to Thomas Detry ! Very solid leader during the Scottish Open, a prestigious golf tournament, the Belgian finally had to give up after the suspense. He indeed faltered at the worst of times and was pushed towards the “play-off”, a sort of extension in the form of a “decisive hole” in the company of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Min Woo Lee.
A play-off from which Lee emerged victorious. With a birdie, the 22-year-old Australian put an end to Detry’s dreams of victory. The Belgian still snatches a podium, which retains a taste of too little in view of the scenario.
At the age of 22, Lee is the youngest winner in Scottish Open history. Last year he won the Handa Vic Open in front of his home crowd.
For his part, Detry, thanks to his second place, is sure to take part in the British Open, the last major tournament of the season which kicks off Thursday in Sandwich, England.
In the European ranking, Detry climbs from 62nd to 17th place.

Min Woo Lee with a birdie at the first playoff hole to win the Scottish Open. Edges Thomas Detry and Matthew Fitzpatrick. Another week, another 22-year-old in the winner’s circle.
