Cameroonian athletes at the 2016 Olympics Archives
The Cameroon team will be represented by 12 athletes from 07 disciplines.
The Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute presides over this Thursday 1is July 2021 the farewell ceremony of Team Cameroon to the Olympic Games scheduled for Tokyo (Japan) from July 23 to August 8.
The said ceremony takes place at the end of the morning at the headquarters of the National Olympic and Sporting Committee of Cameroon (CNOSC), located in the Nkol-Eton district in the district of Yaoundé 1is.
As is customary, the Head of Government will hand over the Cameroonian flag to the wrestler Joseph Emilienne Essombe I love, appointed by the CNOSC standard bearer of Team Cameroon. She will be accompanied by the boxer Albert Mengue Ayissi.
For the upcoming Summer Olympic Games, Cameroon will be represented by 12 athletes, against 24 in the last, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Only 07 individual disciplines were able to qualify athletes. These are judo, weight lifting, swimming, table tennis, wrestling, boxing and athletics.
Among these athletes, only two represent a real hope for a medal for our country. First the judoka Hortense Vanessa Mballa Atangana, four times African champion and recent bronze medalist at the Grand Slam Antalya. The Cameroonian based in France is ranked 14e in the world ranking; a rank that allowed a second judoka, Sophina Arrey to qualify for the Olympics. Cameroon’s other chance for a medal is the boxer Dieudonné Wilfried Seyi, which will be participating in the world’s largest competition for the second time after 2016.
