Broken bones and torn ligaments did not stop her. Holas is heading to Tokyo, Olympic

Two and a half months before the Olympics, gymnast Aneta Holas broke her calf bone and tore ligaments in her ankle, but today she was not missing aboard a special for the Tokyo Games. In the country where her predecessor and legend Věra Čáslavská shone, she will not train her most difficult possible sets, but she still hopes that she will not be ashamed.

“I want to enjoy the Olympics. I don’t mean to go on a trip at all, but in gymnastics it is generally a great success to just get there. I want to proudly represent and show the best possible performance,” said competitor TJ Bohemians Prague, who qualified for the Olympics at the previous year’s World Championships in Stuttgart, where she placed 51st overall in the all-around qualifiers.

Twenty-year-old Holas was injured in preparation in early May. During the jumping training, she broke her right calf bone, tore the ligaments in her ankle and split the head of the shaving bone. “The moment it happened, I said goodbye to the Olympics, but then I didn’t admit I wouldn’t go.”

She worked hard for rehabilitation for two to three hours every day. “I had different microcurrents, magnets, lasers and blood plasma and things like that,” she calculated. As much as possible, she kept fit and listened to the doctor and added more. “I did more than I had to,” she nodded.

A month and a half ago, the silver medalist in the freestyle from the previous year’s European Games in Baku could start full preparations. However, she has a problem with the impacts, especially during the jump or at the end of the beam, so she had to change the difficulty. “I will go for a slightly lighter set, but again, I hope that they will be all the cleaner. I was full and I think I will show full performance,” he believes.

She can’t even do pirouettes on her right leg, so she taught them on her left. “In general, I don’t have to do much with pirouettes, and now I have to spin them on the other leg, it’s not very pleasant, but fortunately it didn’t bother me that much.

The idea of exercising with the most difficult elements she can do has taken hold, but her participation can be considered a bit of a miracle. “I think so too,” Holas smiled.

He will intervene in the multi-combat qualification on Sunday, July 26. And as with all other sports, the auditorium will be without fans, which she experienced at the European Championships. “And I’ll go in the first place, so there won’t be any other delegations, so it’ll probably be a little sad in that big hall. But somehow I deal with it and hope that everyone will support us at least from a distance,” she said.
