Washington (AP) – The Washington Wizards, NBA team of the German national basketball player Isaac Bonga, have signed Wes Unseld Jr. as their new head coach, the Wizards announced.

Unseld Jr. is the son of basketball legend Wes Unseld, who died last year and who led the franchise to the only NBA title in 1978 under the then name Washington Bullets as the most important player.

Wes Unseld Jr. began his NBA career after college in Washington – first as a scout and later as an assistant coach. After further positions at the Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets in the past ten years, Unseld Jr. is now returning to the Wizards – and will be the head coach of an NBA team for the first time.
