Basketball: Bolivia falls to Paraguay (49-74) and the dream of attending the 2023 World Cup is over

The dream of qualifying for the 2023 World Cup is over. The national basketball team lost this Thursday to Paraguay 49-74 in the third and last day of the Pre-qualifying home run which was played at the Olympic Training Center in Santiago de Chile.

Wednesday’s win against Nicaragua (87-82) gave hope to the Bolivian team that on that occasion he added his first victory after the fall he had in his debut against Chile (105-52).

A victory against the Paraguayans would allow Bolivia to achieve one of the two places in dispute in this qualifying phase. This is what the national team pointed to, taking into account that Chile already had a guaranteed ticket with its two consecutive victories (Bolivia and Paraguay) and a victory against Nicaragua at the close of the tournament facilitated the passage to the Bolivian squad.

La Verde had a better panorama on this day than the representative Guaraní, that in his first presentation he lost to the Nicaraguans (73-76). Even losing with less than five points of difference, he could get the pass, since the victory of Chile over Nicaraguay was taken for granted in the background duel on the third date.

But it could not be. Bolivia played a bad game in its last presentation. A weak and worn team was seen. He could not repeat the order he showed against the Central Americans and to this was added the injury of Josh Reaves, who left the court three minutes after the third quarter was played.

Without his main figure in the most important moment of the game, he further weakened the national representative, who at no time was able to reduce the advantage of his rival. ANDThe first quarter ended 9-21; the second, 29-38; the third, 35-53 and closed the quarter 49-74.
