Basketball – after qualification: Schröder wants to be there in Tokyo – sport

Split (AP) – After successfully qualifying for the Olympics, NBA star Dennis Schröder is thinking about playing for the German national basketball team in Tokyo after all.

“I’m always available, but my situation is not that easy. But I hope that we can clarify that by then. My agent has to do his job now. The German national team has done its job, let’s see,” said Schröder. There the German basketball players qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time in 13 years by beating Brazil 75:64.

“Hopefully it will work. If not, I’ll be there anyway and will support again,” said Schröder, who had already supported the German team from the stands in Split at all four games. The 27-year-old point guard had not played in Split because the insurance question could not be clarified for him. Since Schröder is without a contract as a free agent this year, no company could be found that would have insured the required amount. The German Basketball Association had found an insurer up to a certain amount, but Schröder was not enough.

After the emotional moments of Split, Schröder now seems to have pondered again. “Yes, of course I would like to fly with the national team and play with them,” said the native of Braunschweig. “We have what it takes to do something big. I take these guys 24/7 and go to war with them. Of course I’ll fight for them and I’ll try to sort it out. If there is a possibility, then of course it would be cool. But let’s see, “said Schröder.
