Exciting days for Dornbirn’s youngsters in Italy.

Dornbirn. The U18 European Baseball Championship recently took place in Macerata, Italy. With Lukas Pichler and Maximilian Luger, two young Indian players were in action with the Austrian national team. Luger was used in three games as a “relief pitcher”, Pichler started one game each as “leftfielder and catcher”. Both players managed to convince with good performances.

In the first game against the juniors from Lithuania, manager Markus Schiller’s team was able to show its class to the full. Even an early deficit did not upset the young Austria team. At the end of the day Austria had a smooth 12-2 win over Lithuania. With this victory the 8th place was already secured. On the second day, the last game against Israel was on the program. Austria’s juniors could only use their few chances too seldom and finally had to admit defeat to the Israelis 9: 1.

Despite the defeat in the last game, the two Dornbirn players also look back positively on the EM baseball and the successful premiere in the fight for Europe’s top. In the end, the team finished eighth and Lukas Pichler and Maximilian Luger were able to gain important international experience.
