Barça: “We are negotiating, but must take Financial Fair Play into account” | Primera Division

Lionel Messi is officially out of contract with Barcelona. But the Catalan club is doing everything it can to change that again. “The negotiations are going well,” President Laporta said on Spanish radio.

“He would like to stay and we are doing everything we can to make sure that he succeeds. But we have to take into account the Financial Fair Play rules.”

“There are a lot of options and we’re figuring out what’s best for both sides. But we want him to stay. And we want the team he will play with then to be the best it can be.”

La Liga introduced rules regarding the financial household of the clubs in 2013. A maximum was placed on the amount that clubs can spend on players and trainers based on their income. Last season, that meant 733 million euros for Barca.
