Badminton Women’s Individual Final Preview

What happens today?

The women’s singles tournament takes the main stage today, but the afternoon session, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (JST), will begin with the men’s singles semi-finals.

The evening session, from 20:30 (JST), will begin with the match for the bronze and then the final, both in women’s singles.

Who to look out for?

The long-awaited final of the women’s individual competition will crown a new champion, after an injury prevented the Spanish Carolina Marín from defending her title.

The People’s Republic of China, which has won four of the seven women’s individual Olympic titles to date, will pin its hopes on Chen Yu Fei, who has two world championship medals. The Chinese will try to add to the rich history of her country in this event when she meets TAI Tzu-Ying of Chinese Taipei in the final.

India’s PV Sindhu, Rio 2016 silver medalist and current world champion, will face Chinese HE Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match.
