Archery, a gold and a silver at the Italian campaign championships won by the Terni archer Matteo Santi – Terni in Rete

The national archery campaign championships were held from 2 to 4 July in Abbadia San Salvatore (Si).

On the first day of competition, Friday 2 July, Matteo Santi (Arcieri Montalcino) won the senior class title in the Olympic arch specialty.

Matteo Santi is from Terni, he is 21 years old, and he is a champion. He has been in the national team since 2017, when he made his debut in the youth teams. From 2020 in the national team. He lives in Terni, currently he trains in a field set up at his grandparents’ house in Narni. He is the only Terni who plays in Sienese society “quiet and prestigious, because it has many strong athletes” defines it Santi who adds “I needed to switch off and look for new stimuli”. Given the results, it can be said that these stimuli have found them.

The Terni archer lent to the land of “Brunello”, in fact, also won a silver, always in the Olympic arc, in the absolute, beaten in the final by Massimiliano Mandia (Fiamme Azzurre) to his fourth title after those won in 2013, 2014 and 2018. The Terni archer had arrived 2 points ahead of the last volley, but Mandia managed to overturn the result by closing the match in his favor 59-57.

Mandia had very flattering words for Matteo Santi: “he really did two days at the Top – he commented – it was a good fight, I really wanted to congratulate Matteo because he deserves this and more, I’m happy that he continues to believe in this sport and to believe in himself ”.

The Terni athlete obtained the same results last March in the indoor championships: gold in the senior class and silver in the absolute.

The spark for Archery for Matteo Santi was struck in 2012 and does not hide his greatest desire which would be to become a professional. But he is a realist and already has a plan B ready: “I’m a surveyor and I work in an architecture studio”.

In the meantime, he wins titles and dreams. At 21, that’s right.
