Aquila Invicta, Ghennadi Marini wins the contest “Shots from the Middle Ages”

The award ceremony of the photographic contest “Shots from the Middle Ages” (II edition), conceived and organized by the Company of Medieval Archers and Reenactors “Aquila Invicta”, took place on Saturday 17 July in the splendid Borgo di Carapelle Calvisio. The voting on the Association’s Facebook page involved communities from different regions, as well as fans of re-enactment and historical archery. The challenge concerned the naturalistic aspects, the originality of the subjects immortalized with clothes and accessories based on medieval iconography and the particularity of the titles assigned to the individual photos. The Lands of the Barony, true protagonists of a project “The Middle Ages in the Lands of the Barony” which for 4 years has engaged the members of the “Aquila Invicta” Association with historical research, images and, as regards the sporting aspect, the Stage of the National Historical Arch Championship LAM (Medieval Archers League). Even the last edition of the Contest had met with considerable approval and the photo that had reached the podium, entitled “The Fusion”, was set at the Castle of Rocca Calascio and made by the Archers of Ventura Sancto Elpidio of S. Elpidio a mare.

This year the Facebook “jury” awarded the image of Church of Santa Maria della Pietà overlooking the lonely Rocca Calascio. Ghennadi Marini, linked to his origins through the study of the Russian language and the violin, but united at the same time with our Territory showing a sporting passion for artistic gymnastics representing L’Aquila and winning a Regional Trophy, he has participated since childhood in the Historical Parade of the Celestinian forgiveness and the video “… Games in the Middle Ages”, conceived and created by the “Aquila Invicta” Association.

The second classified photo is that of Guido Bonanni of Antrodoco; it almost looks like an ancient painting representing an archer with arrows and quiver immersed in the splendid nature of Carapelle Calvisio.

At the award ceremony, with the delivery of the Cup and the parchment by the president of the Ass. “Aquila Invicta” Silvia Tatoni, the Mayor attended Domenico Di Cesare and the Deputy Mayor Marco Volpe.

The Contest was dedicated, with the photos of the poster, to Alessandro Noli who, having died prematurely, left his family with a wealth of images from which his passion for nature and a particular sensitivity of mind are captured.
