Jupiler Pro LeagueThe European Championship has only just been decided, but the start of our Jupiler Pro League will follow within a week. How are the top clubs currently doing? And with which basic team do they normally start the new season? Our club watchers make the list.
Club Brugge: waiting for Vanaken, Mignolet and… a left back?
Philippe Clement will partly show his cards tomorrow in the Supercup against Racing Genk. But at full strength, blue-black is far from being. Hans Vanaken (longer holiday due to European Championships) is still missing, Simon Mignolet is still injured and Ruud Vormer is not yet there in the Supercup after a high-risk contact. The Dutchman should be available again for the competition. This does not apply to Eduard Sobol, he also got extra vacation after the European championship. Club has not yet brought in its top reinforcements, including a left back. The young Senne Lammens is expected in goal, but he has also been with Club for a while. So we still have to wait for real new names.
Racing Genk: still with Onuachu, but without the Colombians
Few changes at Racing Genk for the time being. Top scorer Paul Onuachu is still walking around in Limburg and Genk is also counting on the Nigerian giant for match day 1. The same goes for striker brothers Théo Bongonda and Junya Ito. In the back, the Spaniard Mujaid Sadick is a new name, in midfield a lot is expected from Carel Eiting – who came over from Ajax. The Limburgers will have to do without their Colombians for the time being. Jhon Lucumi, Carlos Cuesta and Daniel Munoz got extra holidays after the Copa América.
Antwerp: waiting for English, Frey must make Mbokani forget
Antwerp also looks quite different. Refaelov was no longer there during the play-offs, but now Dieumerci Mbokani is definitely gone. Michael Frey, who came over from Waasland-Beveren, now has to take care of the goals. The ‘Great Old’ also trumped Club Brugge in the battle for Michel-Ange Balikwisha and brought Bjorn Engels back to Belgium. The defender still has some work to do to be in good condition, so that newcomer Almeida initially seems to get a base place in Brian Priske’s 4-2-3-1.
Anderlecht: 4-2-2-2 with a lot of new faces
The Anderlecht that starts next week will look completely different from the team that played its last match at the Bosuil last season. Nmecha, Miazga, Sambi Lokonga are gone or almost gone. But with Hoedt, Harwood-Bellis, Gomez, Refaelov and Raman, RSCA also got a lot of reinforcements. The team of sports director Peter Verbeke is especially looking forward to an extra striker and a replacement for Sambi, but the chance that they will be ready to get a place in Kompany’s 4-2-2-2 next week seems non-existent. .
Standard: important departures, little reinforcement due to limited financial strength
Standard is practically on dry seed. The Rouches have lost their way financially and sportively in recent years and they are now suffering the consequences of this. With Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Zinho Vanheusden and possibly Hugo Siquet, three talented youth players leave the club. Noë Dussenne, Selim Amallah, Maxime Lestienne, Aleksandar Boljevic and Mehdi Carcela can/should/should also see them leave from Sclessin. Siquet is expected in the team next week and a few more youngsters will start next to him. Players like Al-Dakhil and Ngoy seem to be getting their chance.
AA Gent: important role for newcomers Hjulsager and Bruno?
AA Gent was also quite active on the transfer market. And several newcomers are also expected in the squad next week: Christian Opéri on the left, Andrew Hjulsager a row higher and Gianni Bruno in the striker. Furthermore, it seems likely that Davy Roef will play if Sinan Bolat is not fit enough. If he is, he will be the number 1 of Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
