The Berrichonne de Châteauroux club moved to the Saudi flag in March 2021, becoming the fifth club in the United World Group. After a complicated season, managers, supporters and Castelroussins hope that this new investor will restore the club to its former glory. Reportage.

Welcome to Saudi Arabia. On March 9, 2021, the Berrichonne de Châteauroux football club was officially bought by Saudi Prince Abdallah ben Moussaed and his United World group. An event for this city in central France whose football team, which holds the record for the number of matches played in Ligue 2, is the pride of the local population.

The club thus becomes the fifth formation to join the princely fold – the group already owns Sheffield United in the Premier League (in England), Beerschot (in Belgium), Kerala United (Indian D2) and Al-Hilal United (Emirati D2). With this new purchase, United World aims to establish itself in the French market, while promoting the training center which is the pride of the city of Castelroussine. We promise a bright future with, ultimately, a rise in the French elite: Ligue 1.

Miracles are, however, not instantaneous. Three months after the takeover, when the Ligue 2 season ends, the Berrichonne finishes in last place in the standings and will therefore play in National next season. However, new management, supporters, subscribers, Castelroussins remain optimistic and trust the project, without fear for the identity of the club. A report from France 24.
