First goal of the season: the Italian Super Cup. In fact, the path of the new Reggiana Basketball will begin from this important and prestigious event, posted on the bulletin board in 2015. In fact, during the Lega assembly held by President Umberto Gandini in the presence of the other companies, the new formula was communicated, similar, but not the same, to that of last season, which in any case represents a strong break with tradition.
The four seeded teams, which this year will be Virtus Bologna, Olimpia Milano, Happy Casa Brindisi and Vuelle Pesaro, will qualify directly for the Final Eight, while the other twelve teams will compete in three groups of four teams (or in four groups from three, this step has yet to be precisely defined …) that the other four participants will decide.
A wonderful opportunity to start oiling the mechanisms of the collective pending the start of the championship, scheduled for September 26, and maybe to finally see some of the audience in the stands again. It could also be an opportunity to reach unexpected goals, because in this phase of the year there are often surprises and the “outsiders” can get to make a big voice.
The reasons are many, but they are mainly due to the extra commitments that many national team players may have and also to the profound changes that, especially in some of the “big” Italians, could take shape during the summer. It will therefore be a good opportunity to start regaining the fans and understand the first dynamics of the team.
Last year the Super Cup was in fact an important driving force to start the championship in the right way even if then, unfortunately, Covid and some vicissitudes led Martino’s team adrift which ended with the exoneration of the Molise technician. The location has not yet been established with accuracy even if it is not excluded that it is possible to make the groups in some areas and then the finals in a single system.
We will see in the coming weeks what will also be established based on the anti-Covid government provisions which could undergo important changes and, consequently, push Legabasket to adopt some choices rather than others.
