UCLM teacher Javier Abián, Spanish badmint champion

The professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) Javier Abián He has been proclaimed absolute champion of Spain for the eighth time in men’s badminton in doubles as a couple with his brother Pablo Abián, that this course has collaborated with the teaching of the subject ‘Fundamentals of Sports with Raquet’ at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Toledo.

The championship took place in Cartagena (Murcia); the first round of the tournament was settled by Javier Y Pablo Abián against the players of the Jorge Guillén club (Andalusia) Antonio Mancera Y Jose Alberto Sepúlveda by 21-7 and 21-5. In the quarterfinals they beat the couple Miguel Esteve Y Jose Luis Martin, from Alicante, by 21-12 and 21-18.

In the semifinals they beat Ernesto Baschwitz Y Marc Cardona, Madrid and the Balearic Islands, respectively, by 22-20 and 21-19. In the final of the tournament they defeated the couple formed by Joan Monroy Y Carlos Piris, de Granollers (Barcelona), by 21-13 and 21-17, the UCLM has informed in a statement.

Javier Abián will attend the Tokyo Olympics as coach of Pablo Abián (badminton) that he has classified in the men’s individual modality. University professor and researcher of the DEPORSALUD group, as a badminton coach he holds the gold medal in the I European Olympic Games, achieved by Pablo Abián in 2015. Together with his brother, he also participated in the Rio Olympics, in which the badminton team got a 14th place.
