Croatians Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic were excluded from the tournament after testing positive for Covid-19

A team of the Roland-Garros men’s doubles tournament has tested positive for covid and “removed from the table”, announced Wednesday evening the French Tennis Federation (FFT) organizer of the tournament. “The management of the Roland-Garros tournament informs that two players in the men’s doubles tournament, belonging to the same team, have tested positive for Covid-19,” said the FFT in a press release. After noticing their absence in the table, it is Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic, pair of doubles world No. 1 and big favorite of the tournament.

“In accordance with the health protocol of the tournament, the team was excluded from the table which began yesterday (Tuesday) and the two players were placed in isolation. They have been replaced by the first team on the waiting list, ”the statement added without citing the players concerned.

2446 tests

The Federation specifies Wednesday that since the start of the tournament’s qualifications, on May 24, “2446 tests have been carried out with the populations of players, players and their entourage”.

The players and their entourage “are subject to continuous biological monitoring, including very regular tests, and all move and circulate in ‘sanitary’ spaces reserved, the text concludes.
