The team of the round

The first round of this EURO is history. Several players made a deep impression on me – also from Austria.

Two ÖFB stars are in my team of the round, which I run with a 3-4-3 system.

TOR

Lukás Hrádecky (Finland)
An incredibly secure support for the underdog in the 1-0 win against Denmark. Six saves are so far top value in this final round.

DEFENSE

Simon Kjaer (Denmark)
What a captain! Already the winner of the hearts at this EM. It was he who saved the collapsed teammate Christian Eriksen from suffocation against Finland, directed the rest of the team despite the shock and even comforted Eriksen’s girlfriend.

David Alaba (Austria)
He thrives in central defense. Saddle-proof at the back and with important impulses to the front. The highlight: his assist to the important 2-1 win against North Macedonia.

Giorgio Chiellini (Italy)
With him in defense, Italy is tremendously stable. After the 3-0 win against the Turks there are already nine games without conceding a goal – crazy! His qualities in positional play and as a team leader are unbroken.

MIDFIELD

Paul Pogba (France)
He convinced me in the 1-0 win against Germany. He had the midfield under control, and he repeatedly turned dangerous on the offensive. His headball strength in particular can cause a lot of headaches for other teams.

Marcel Sabitzer (Austria)
I could watch his assist to make it 1-0 against North Macedonia over and over again. His overview in midfield is amazing, a real weapon.

Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands)
With him as captain, the Netherlands celebrated a victorious return to the EURO. Not only because of his 1-0 winning goal an absolute asset in the 3-2 win against Hungary.

Lorenzo Insigne (Italy)
In addition to Ciro Immobile (who just barely made it into the team) the absolute most important man in Italy’s offensive. On the left wing, Insigne was a constant threat against the Turks. With the goal of the 3-0 final score, he rewarded himself for a strong performance.

STURM

Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)
First double pack of this EURO. And I think Lukaku will have more hits after the 3-0 win against the Russians. This man is just a machine, with his head and feet extremely dangerous.

Patrik Schick (Czech Republic)
Do I really have to justify this choice? His goal from 50 meters to the 2-0 final against Scotland was world class. At least the most beautiful goal of the tournament so far. The fact that he also contributed the first goal underscores his place in the team of the round.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
This exceptional player has already scored eleven (!) EM goals. Two of them at the start against the Hungarians. He just keeps showing that he is there when it matters. Watching him is pure entertainment.
