The Latvian men’s 3×3 basketball team does not qualify for the European Cup final

The Latvian men’s 3×3 basketball team reached the quarterfinals of the European Cup qualifying tournament in Romania on Saturday, in which it later suffered a loss without earning the right to participate in the final tournament, informs the Latvian Basketball Union (LBS).

The Latvian national team in the men’s competition is represented by Kārlis Apsītis, Kārlis Žunda, Dāvis Gūtmanis and Klāvs Dubults, but in the women’s competition – Baiba Eglīte, Kristīna Petermane, Janeta Rozentāle, Emīlija Krista Grava.

The Latvian men’s team with the first number in the first group A game with 14:17 gave way to the Slovak team, but later with 17:13 beat Belarus, securing the first place in the group.

The victory in the subgroup on Saturday gave Latvians the opportunity to play in the quarterfinals, in which they lost to Estonia with 15:21.

The Latvian team was in the lead only 3: 2, but in the second half of the game they were initially driven with -6 (10:16), but the Estonians later increased their lead to two more points (12:20).

The winners of this game won a ticket to the final tournament in Paris.

Meanwhile, the Latvian women’s national team in group C lost to the Ukrainian national team with 11:19, but then with 12:17 it lost to the Lithuanian team and did not reach the quarterfinals.

12 women’s and 12 men’s teams will take part in the final of the European Cup in Paris, four of which are already known. The women’s competition will feature French basketball players (host country and 2019 champions), as well as three teams that took the highest places in the FIBA ​​ranking table on November 1, 2020: Russia (3rd), the Netherlands (5th), Romania (7th) .

France (organizers), Serbia (2019 champions), Russia (3rd) and Slovenia (4th) will play in the men’s tournament.
