Tennis: Will Novak Djokovic win the Golden Grand Slam? – Sport-Mix

Will he turn a world-class year into a historic season?

With his second win at the French Open, Novak Djokovic (34) is getting closer and closer to tennis. The Serb is only missing one Grand Slam victory to be on a par with Roger Federer (39) and Rafael Nadal (35) with 20 Grand Slam titles.

But Djokovic has a completely different record in mind, which so far only our Steffi Graf (52) can claim!

In 1988 he achieved a unique feat – a so-called “Golden Slam.” For this, a player has to win all four major Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open) in one year and also the gold medal in the Secure the Olympic Games.

Steffi achieved this in an impressive way in 1988. In the entire year, the Countess lost only three games (!) And ended the season with a score of 72: 3. Djokovic can’t quite keep up with that. The Serbian has already caught the three defeats (overall balance 27: 3), but the chance of the historic Golden Slam is still as good as ever for Djokovic!

Because the victory at the tournament in Paris should have cleared the most difficult hurdle. Usually only permanent dominator Nadal wins there, who won the French Open 13 times in his career. But now Djokovic dethroned the Spaniard in a high-class semi-final (3: 6, 6: 3, 7: 6, 6: 2) and secured the cup for the second time since 2016.

In addition: Nadal has already canceled for Wimbledon and Olympia! Djokovic, who won the last two tournaments on the London lawn (2018 and 2019, 2020 was canceled due to Corona), is the undisputed top favorite at both tournaments without his eternal rival. And there is no getting around him at the US Open in September either. Djokovic, who is considered one of the best hard court players of all time, always feels at home at the tournament in New York and has already triumphed there three times (2011, 2015, 2018).

The Serb himself says: “Anything is possible, and I have put myself in a good position for the Golden Slam.” But caution is advised. When Djokovic won in Paris for the first time in 2016 and held all the Grand Slam titles at the same time, the next Grand Slam tournament was catastrophic for him. Djokovic: “That ended with the third round at Wimbledon.” He failed on Ami Sam Querrey.

Tennis legend Boris Becker (53) recently said of Djokovic: “Out of this world, what a guy. He makes the impossible possible. ”So if anyone were to win the Golden Slam, it would be the Super Serb.
