Steffi Graf: There are photos of me dancing on the table – sports mix

A rare glimpse into the life of a tennis legend …

Steffi Graf celebrated her 52nd birthday on Monday. On this occasion, the German gave an interview in the French sports newspaper “L’Equipe” in which she only talks about her sport.

With one surprisingly funny exception!

Steffi Graf is actually very reluctant to give private insights. After her career, she lives in seclusion with her family near Las Vegas. But now Steffi has given a little anecdote from her active time that one would not have expected.

She reveals: “There are photos of me dancing on the table.” I beg your pardon? The quiet Steffi as a party beast?

After this triumph, Steffi Graf danced on the table: The victory at Ronald Garros in 1999 was her last of 22 Grand Slam victories. A few months later, she resigned from professional sports. Foto: picture alliance / SVEN SIMON

She explains: “That was after the French Open victory in 1999. I never thought that I would be able to play tennis again after the serious knee operation and, if so, that I would be physically competitive again. So the win was as exciting as it was unexpected. I never did that again on the table before and afterwards. ”At that time, 29-year-old Graf won against 18-year-old Martina Hingis, who commented negatively on the Germans’ playing ability in the run-up to the final. An extra motivation for the German tennis legend, who later described this victory as the most beautiful victory of her career.

Then you can dance quietly on the table …
