Spectacular newcomer: Medi Bayreuth signs US playmaker Cameron Wells – Region

First station in Germany in Tübingen

After the year in Zwolle, I switched to the BBL. Under head coach Igor Perovic, Wells played 29 games for Tübingen (6.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists) before a knee injury forced him to take a year off. With the Gießen 46ers he started his comeback in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2014/15 season he led the Hessians to third place in the main round and then to the playoff final against Würzburg. In two thrilling games (77-76 victory in Würzburg and 73:71 in Gießen) they won the championship and were promoted to the Bundesliga.

With an average of 8.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 34 games, Wells narrowly missed the playoffs with Gießen, who was ninth in the table – just as in the following year. The development of Cameron Wells continued with 14.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game and was rewarded with the appointment for the Allstar game 2017 – coach of the international team was Raoul Korner.

Change to Italy and return

Wells followed an offer from Italy and moved to Varese in the 2017/18 season. He was also convincing in Lombardy (11.3 points and 3.5 assists in 23 league games) and reached sixth place with his team in the Lega A. In the playoffs, however, he ended up in the quarter-finals against Brescia. In 2018, Denis Wucherer, for whom he had already played in Gießen, guided him back to the Bundesliga in Würzburg. This year, which again ended in ninth place in the table, “Der General” played all 34 BBL games (11.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists) and led his team to the final of the Europe Cup, in which they were only narrowly defeated by the Italians at Dinamo Sassari in two thrilling games. In 18 games Wells averaged 9.9 points, got 2.6 rebounds and gave 5.8 assists.

Not least thanks to his 16.2 counters and 5.5 assists per game, the Würzburg team were in eighth position when the main round 2019/20 was canceled. Then Wells went to the north of France, where he joined BCM Gravelines. After only five games, however, he was drawn back to the Boulazac Baskets Dordogne, with whom he finished the season in last place despite 9.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
