The Schalke have already made a significant loss in previous sins. The still most expensive addition in the club’s history called Breel Embolo, which came from Basel in 2016 for a base fee of 22.5 million euros, moved to Gladbach three years later for less than half of it. At Yevhen Konoplyanka, summer access 2016, Schalke later drew the purchase option for 12.5 million, the Ukrainian said goodbye to Donetsk in 2019 – for 1.8 million.

After relegation to the second division, FC Schalke now has to reckon with several more loss-making deals, based on working papers from the recent past that have been extremely lucrative, especially for the professionals. The former European Cup permanent guest has, so to speak, dug his own grave of millions.

Six million for the player, three million for the advisor

A good example is Mark Uth. The striker came from TSG Hoffenheim in 2018. Free transfer, but: According to kicker information, the conclusion of the four-year contract alone cost nine million euros – six million cash for the player, three million for the consultant.

According to the contract, Uth could switch for 20 million euros a year before it expires, i.e. this summer. This is how high the transfer fee is currently stipulated in a clause.

But the royal blues will hardly get a euro. The attraction of saying goodbye to the attacker: Schalke saves the salary. As with some other players with a contract that is also valid in the 2nd division, this is lavish: Uth’s basic annual salary is three million euros, but can sometimes grow quickly through bonuses. The point bonus was anchored at 17,500 euros, among other things.

You can read why Uth’s point bonus is still comparatively moderate and what consequences the expensive sins of the past have for those responsible in the meantime in the Thursday edition of kicker (also as an eMagazine).
