Shortage of referees in Namur provincial football: “In one year, we have lost around thirty …”

The number of registrants decreases from year to year. The situation is becoming worrying.

The Namur Regional Arbitration Office sounded the alarm at the last provincial general assembly. The number of registered referees is once again on the decline. A situation that is becoming worrying.

“In one year, we have lost around thirty referees. What is even more challenging is that it affects all categories: eight in P1, five in P2 and six in P3 in addition to the youngsters”, explains President Maurice Pestiaux.

The new registrations do not make it possible to compensate for the annual stops. “A year ago, we had 45 new referees … but few are those who complete the course.“They wouldn’t even be ten.
