Andreas Seppi is doing his first lawn tournament this season.

The Kalterer Andreas Seppi and Thomas Fabbiano were eliminated in the doubles of Nottingham in the first round on Wednesday afternoon.

The duo from Italy had to admit defeat 6: 7 (4), 6: 7 (6) in two tiebreaks at the ATP Challenger in Great Britain Jay Clarke (GBR) / Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS).

The match was very even from the start. Both duos managed to serve up to 6: 6, even if Seppi / Fabbiano had to fend off three breakballs in the first set and even one set ball in the 5: 6. In the tiebreak, Clarke / Kokkinakis went straight away to 5: 0 and 6: 2, the Azzurri reduced it to 4: 6, but had to give up the tiebreak 4: 7 after 44 minutes of play.

In the second part of the game, both pairings did not give each other anything. Seppi / Fabbiano took the lead 4-2, but Clarke / Kokkinakis countered with the rebreak. When the score was 5: 4, the “Azzurri” awarded a set point for the first time, and shortly afterwards this set had to be decided in the tie-break. Seppi / Fabbiano promptly took a 6: 3 lead, but Clarke / Kokkinakis did not give up yet, fended off three more set balls and shortly afterwards converted their first match point to the 8: 6 final score.

In the individual against Hoang

Seppi is still in the individual competition at the lawn tournament in Nottingham. The 37-year-old Überetscher, who was able to knock out the Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (ATP 175) with 7: 6 (4), 6: 2 at the beginning, will meet the French Antoine Hoang, number 133 in the world, in round 2 on Thursday. Hoang got the upper hand in two tiebreaks against Fabbiano of all places. Seppi and Hoang, who is 12 years younger than him, have never played against each other.
