Salaspils and Stopiņi handball players enter the semi-finals of the Latvian Cup

After winning the first round games, the women’s teams of Stopiņi County Handball Club and Salaspils Sports School qualified for the semi-finals of the “Sporta punkts” Latvian Cup. The fight for the final in Dobele is scheduled for Saturday, the decisive game for the trophy is scheduled for Sunday.

The handball players of Salaspils Sports School, who finished the Latvian Premier League championship in the fourth place, competed with the “REIR Dobele” team, which finished one position below. After losing at the very beginning (0: 1), the islanders scored four goals in a row, continued to gain the lead almost throughout the game and in the end celebrated a very convincing victory 42:24. Dace Potapova and Frīda Binduka scored eight goals, Renāte Salmane six.

The national champions Stopiņi NHK handball players had a much harder success, which, however, was opposed by the vice-champions – the players of Ludza sports club “Latgols”. In the middle of the first half, the Stopiņi team had gained an eight-goal lead (8: 4), but the Ludza women eliminated it before the break, but after the break they already achieved a “plus five” (15:20). The stop team drove for another five and a half minutes to the end, but successfully finished the top and won 29:26. Kristine Dzenite scored 10 goals (including three of the last four of the team), Darya Savchenko’s account had seven accurate shots.

In the semi-finals of the Latvian Cup, the handball players of Salaspils Sports School will meet with the unit of the Latvian Academy of Sports Pedagogy, which did not finish the Latvian championship, which was suspended due to the pandemic, but Stopiņi NHK –
