Ronaldo is still partying with Portugal after a difficult victory…

It took blood, sweat and tears, but Portugal did its job against Hungary. In the last ten minutes, the Portuguese scored three more goals after a difficult game against the energetic and courageous Hungarians: 0-3. Cristiano Ronaldo starred with a massive miss in the first half and two goals at the end. The Portuguese star sets a new record and is the first player ever to score at five consecutive European Championships.

For the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus, we once again received an old-fashioned cauldron on the European football fields. More than 55,000 Hungarians made a racket with every promising move by their team, but especially with every touch of the ball by Cristiano Ronaldo. As usual, the Portuguese world star was surrounded by the entire stadium.

To the delight of the boisterous Hungarians, Ronaldo missed the opportunity to give Portugal the lead. Just before half time, Ronaldo was brought into position by the moderately playing Bruno Fernandes, from close range he incomprehensibly kicked. Yesterday we possibly already got the goal of the tournament from Patrik Shick, today Ronaldo makes a shot at the miss of the tournament.

The Portuguese’s most active attacker during the first half, however, was Diogo Jota. The Liverpool attacker was very present, especially in the opening quarter. He was given the space to shoot three times, twice he found the excellent Hungarian goalkeeper Gulácsi in his way and once he kicked high over.

The Hungarians were very disciplined in their defensive work, but were unable to prepare anything in the first half. They played with a lot of energy and were propelled forward by the Hungarian supporters, but they didn’t get very far. A header from the bony striker Szalai on a stationary phase was the only ball that Rui Patrício had to pick.

More balanced second half

Around the hour, the Hungarians actually knew a better moment. Unlike in the entire first half, they actually managed to create chances themselves. Rui Patrício had to work on attempts by Spitsenduo Szalai and Sallai, but they were unable to place their shots. The Hungarians took courage from their first real chances and started playing football more and more. Substitute Schön brought the whole stadium into ecstasy, but the flag was rightly raised for offside.

Portugal still had most of the ball, but was actually nowhere. Gulácsi went down two more times in the second half on a header by Pepe and a well-placed long shot by Bruno Fernandes.

The acceleration that the Portuguese needed to disrupt the Hungarian block did not actually materialize, but Raphaël Guerreiro was lucky enough to score the opening goal. Both Fernandes’ cross and the left back’s shot deviated on a Hungarian foot, 0-1.

Less than two minutes later, in minute 88, Portugal was completely victorious. Willi Orban hung too ostentatiously on substitute Frankfurt striker André Silva and referee konakir had no choice but to point to the spot. Cristiano Ronaldo took his responsibility, kicked in flawlessly and scored his fifth European Championship in a row. The fat was completely gone at Hungary and in injury time Ronaldo, after a great combination with Rafa Silva, was able to pass goalkeeper Gulacsi and make his second of the evening: 0-3.
