Rennais Stadium. 50 years ago, Rennes won the Coupe de France – Stade Rennais

Without the amazing success against the PSG in 2019, Stade Rennais would still be rehashing its past in the Coupe de France. The trophy cabinet is finally dusted off, but that does not prevent us from looking in the retro. And 50 years is worth celebrating! This is what Guillaume Cheminot, a Stade Rennais enthusiast, thought, who embarked on writing in order to revive the Coupe de France final against Lyon (1-0), on June 20, 1971.

For two years, he went to meet the “survivors” of the time, all happy to reopen the souvenir album. “Will you take a haircut again?” »Is a digest of often tasty, but always sincere talks from a group of friends who have marked the history of the club.

Jean Prouff, the architect

From Marcel Aubour, the earthy Tropezian goalkeeper immortalized playing pétanque … with artichokes in the final, to André Guy, historic scorer of this last edition played in Colombes, via Raymond Kéruzoré, which will quickly become the emblem of Breton football, all bring life to this story. All with unpublished photos, most of them from private collections.

Another character is essential but is no longer there to testify: Jean Prouff, the coach who had already brought back the trophy in 1965. A follower of attacking football, he had only one credo: “To play first , then win ”. On June 20, 1971, the victory was also that of a coach-architect who had become emblematic at Stade Rennais. It deserved a statue au Roazhon Park
