MEXICO CITY (apro) .– After predominantly white students from San Diego County High School threw tortillas at the Orange Glen High School Latino men’s basketball team, after a championship game held on Saturday 19 by the night, a 12-year-old girl came to the high school to express her outrage at the “racist” act.
“It is another form of racism that should not be tolerated and less when they are children,” said Lilia, who put up a banner denouncing racism outside the campus and sending a message to the Escondido team players.
Coronado School District leaders apologized and police said they will investigate the incident.
“This behavior is reprehensible. We cannot allow anyone in our community to feel uncomfortable and we send our sincere apologies to the Orange Glen community. The people who participated in these actions do not reflect the values of our school district, ”Coronado Unified High School District Superintendent Karl Muerller said in a statement.
It all started when Coronado won the game 60-57 in overtime at home and the coaches argued. At that moment, at least two players started tossing tortillas.
“It personally hurt me to see young athletes being treated like this… specifically the Orange Glen Boys college basketball team! Coronado High School is disgusted for throwing tortillas at Orange Glen players! ”Wrote one user!
Colorado Police confirmed that the person who initiated the attack has already been identified and is being investigated for the incident, while Coronado High School apologized to its rivals for these acts.
“The Coronado Unified School District recognizes that these acts are heinous, degrading and disrespectful. Racism and classism in the actions of the perpetrators ”.
But the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) was not satisfied with the apology. “It was not because they are innocent, because they are young. It is a racist act, ”said the national vice president for adolescents of the LULAC, Andrés Rodríguez.
He even considered that the minimum that the school should do is expel those responsible, take legal action, speak with assembly members, with congressmen so that they know that this type of action cannot be allowed, reported Telemundo20.com.
