Simon Halep, the planet’s third racquet in women’s tennis, announced on Friday shortly before the Wimbledon Championship draw that he would not take part in the tournament. Thus, the 29-year-old Romanian will not defend her title, which she won last year, defeating the American Serena Williams in the final.

Halepa broke his left leg cavities in a tournament in Rome in May, which prevented him from taking part in the French Open. She went to Wimbledon with hopes of returning to the court, but has now decided to withdraw from the competition.

In the first Grand Slam of the season, Halepa made it to the quarterfinals, losing to William as well. Halepa holds two Grand Slam titles – she won the French Open in 2018 and a year later in Wimbledon. During her career, she has won 22 WTA trophies, three of them in 2020.
