Olympic nomination confirmed – our team for Tokyo!

Especially in the women’s field, several female athletes have worked their way up the Olympic rankings thanks to good to very good placements at the World Championships. Of the six possible starters, four were able to secure a top 8 placement and thus a spot on the Olympic fight list.

Led by the reigning world champion Anna-Maria Wagner (-78 kg), the strong German women’s team led by national coach Claudiu Pusa has a very good chance of reaching the medal ranks.

The men have achieved the required Olympic rank in all weight classes and will most likely travel to Tokyo with seven athletes. Due to injuries, some of the DJB athletes have slipped in the rankings. With Grand Slam winner Dominic Ressel (-81 kg) and Masters bronze medalist Eduard Trippel (-90 kg) national coach Richard Trautmann has two promising medal aspirants in the German team.

The following athletes were proposed to the DOSB for nomination for the Olympics:

  • -57 kg: Theresa Stoll
  • -63 kg: Martyna Trajdos
  • -70 kg: Giovanna Scoccimarro
  • -78 kg: Anna-Maria Wagner
  • +78 kg: Jasmin Grabowski

Men:

  • -60 kg: Moritz Plafky
  • -66 kg: Sebastian Seidl
  • -73 kg: Igor Wandtke
  • -81 kg: Dominic Ressel
  • -90 kg: Eduard Trippel
  • -100 kg: Karl-Richard Frey
  • +100 kg: Johannes Frey

After the World Championships in Budapest, the final touches have to be done in training before the DJB judoka are perfectly prepared to contest their Olympic competition in the time-honored Nippon Budōkan.
